John R. Bruning has been a military historian since 1989. He is the author, coauthor or ghost writer on twenty-six books, seven NYT and National Bestsellers, the most recent being Ric Prado's CIA memoirs, "Black Ops." In 2005, he embedded with 2-162 Infantry during stability and support operations in post-Katrina New Orleans. In 2010, he embedded in Eastern Afghanistan during the Surge with elements of the 3rd Infantry Division's 3rd CAB. For reporting on a helicopter mishap on election day, 2010 in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense gave Bruning a Thomas Jefferson Award, a rare honor for a civilian.


He is currently writing a book on Jim Cushing, an American gold miner turned guerrilla in the Philippines, who captured the Japanese chief of staff of the Imperial Combined Fleet as well as Japan's entire plan of defense for the Western Pacific.
