Object name Chair, Dentist's
Description A Dentists or Optometrist chair with hydraulic adjustments used for examinations. The seat and backrest are upholstered red leather. The arm rests appear to be of black enamel. The frame is steel, painted brown, and the base is polished steel. The seat, armrest and back rests are attached to the frame so that the frame is visible behind the seat. Above the backrest is a steel and rubber headrest. The headrest is made of a U-shaped steel frame with two rubber disks attached to each end in which the patient's head rests. The headrest can be slid forward and back by an adjustment leaver behind the frame. At the front of the seat is a two-step foot rest, framed in steel and covered with rubber. The chair was adjustable by using a hydraulic oil mechanism. It is on a swivel, reclined and the height could be adjusted. The chair originally belonged to Dr. Besotti in Dallas, and was then bought by Dr. Huff, of Falls City. Dr. Huff donated the chair to the Polk County Museum. The Polk County Museum then agreed to donate the chair to the Heritage Museum on July 19, 2002. Polk County Historical Society's original accession number was DR-91-10-28.
