Object name Organ, Reed
Description Kimbal Reed Organ, approximate age, 1896. Oak Pump organ with detachable ornate top. Main organ is 45" wide, 51.75" high, 23.5" deep. Thirty-six white keys, 25 black. Eight pull knobs above keyboard (labeled: Principal, Diapson, Dulcet, Bass Coupler, Diapson Forte, Flue Forte, Treble Coupler, Echo Horn, Melodica, Celeste) Ornate woodwork throughout. Design that is cut below keyboard features alternating ‘Z' shaped cuts and circles with fluted edges and a hole in the center across width of keyboard. Fluted circle design is also used in a pair of square cutout panels on either side of the music stand as part of a diagonal latice design with straight bars. Both cutouts are backed with purple fabric. Two foot pedals covered with purple carpet. Ornate hand holds on either side 29" from the ground. Hinged back panel revealing internal works with a sticker that has instructions for disassembly. Detachable ornate top is 46.25" wide, 24.25" high at center. Features a central shelf fronted by two posts and a rail. The serial number: #57173 is machine carved or stamped into the wood on the top. Includes the book: ‘Modern Method of Reed Organ' by W.F. Sudds (Hatch Music Company, Philadelphia). And a letter from the Kimball company to Mrs Dorothy Middleton, 3120 Garden Rd, Salem, dated October 7, 1946 from a H.D. Hewitt giving the organ's approximate age and some information about reed organs made during that time period. Padded stool covered with blue stripped muslin, aprox. 2' high. Wood at the base does not match the organ.
