Description Photo - Copy - Pictured: Hap Engblom, unknown, Richard "Dick" Kelley and Keith Petersen all on horses. They were getting ready to race around the "hop bowl" in 1938. Keith told the story of how they decided to race around the hop bowl, now Riverview park, and how his horse was too excited and hard to control. Hap was on his right. When Keith couldn't get his horse to make the turn Hap was stuck and couldn't turn either. By the time they got back on track they caught up with Dick but he still won the race by a nose. Dick Kelley drove a school bus in Independence in the 1930's.
