Description: Black and white photo of George Skinner on his boat "Independence". After his retirement his son, Claud continued to operate the two river launches, "Independence" and "Louise " for some time. He used these boats to haul passengers and freight between Independence and Salem in the mid 1880's. It took three hours to make the trip between the two cities. These boats were always referred to as the "Skinner Launches."
